Q: What is the difference between an interior designer and an interior decorator?
A: Anyone can call themselves a decorator and some have a knack for it. Being an interior designer requires a bachelor’s degree and / or certification. Designers must adhere to all State code and regulatory requirements. Annual successful completion of board-approved courses keep designers, like Kelly, up to date on the current trends and legal aspects of design.
Q: Where do you get your inspiration from?
A: Inspiration comes from the gut feeling of how we can add value to the project. Backed up by years of experience, global travel, art museums, architecture both new and old, botanical gardens and wildlife preserves, oceans, and new advancements/products in the design world.
Q: How do you know what a client wants, expects, and can afford?
A: A combination of listening to the client (wants), quiet observations (what they expect), and an honest discussion of budget.
Q: Why hire an interior designer instead of an in-store decorator/designer?
A: Though there is nothing wrong with an in-store decorating service, note that most are required to exclusively use the company’s products and can only offer a “free” 1-2 hours of their time. With Drexel Design Studio, it is personal and unique to each client and their budget. We offer a wide variety of products and are in no way limited to a handful of brands.
Q: What is the software for design you will be using on my project?
A: Autocad, Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat, 3D viewer, and a #2 Pencil and Paper.
Q: I want a space like no other - can you do that?
A: Our promise to clients is that every one of our projects is unique. Your project likely requires a broad range of products, from a myriad of manufacturers. You would be surprised how the relationships we have with artists, small shop owners, and trade-only resources allow us to bring a vision to life.
Q: What forms of payment do you accept?
A: These days we take all forms of payment. Cash, check, credit card, including AmEx.
